The Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust (ZIFFT) cordially invites Zimbabwean filmmakers and those beyond boarders to submit films for the 17th edition of the film festival slated on 3-10 October. These can be submitted online on www.festival.zifft.org or in person at its No# 2 Canterbury, Kensington offices and the due date is 14 August.
Running under the theme “Documation”, the festival will pay particular attention to Documentary and Animation but invitations however extend to Feature Films and Short Films.
The theme which adjoins Documentary and Animation genres serves to capture and archive the essence of Zimbabwe’s heritage, past and present. It is also an effort to project the future of the film industry in this country as well as fulfil ZIFFT’s vision of promoting “a society that enjoys and celebrates a dynamic film culture.”
These submissions will not only facilitate the growth of film industry but will also bring best filmmakers on limelight as their films can also be screened during other festivals in various countries. During this festival outstanding films will also attract prizes.
Over 200 films were submitted towards the 16th festival coming from 36 countries which comprise Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, Ghana, India, Mauritania, Nigeria, Rwanda, United States, and Zimbabwe itself.
Just like last year, local films will be well represented and the ‘Calabash’ (a selection of Zimbabwe entries) will add an exciting angle to the programming.
Justice Chipwanya’s film Dust and Fortunes was unanimously the best under this special category.
As you recall, the trust also successfully launched the “ZIFFTours as an initiative to spread the festival across the country and this saw it being spread to Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo and Mutare. This year’s will also expand to such areas but on different dates to be announced in future.
